Flag raising: Vietnam's National Day

The Vietnam flag will be flown in Confederation Park in celebration of Vietnam's National Day.

September 2nd is recognized as Vietnam National Day, a day which is celebrated by Vietnamese Canadians when Vietnam gained its national independence in 1945 at the end of the Second World War.

Illumination: Living Donation Week

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up green for Living Donation Week. For those in need of a kidney or liver transplant, living organ donation may offer a shorter pathway to better health - providing faster access to transplant and a quicker recovery. The Centre for Living Organ Donation was created by the Ajmera Transplant Centre in 2018 to improve access to living organ donation for people who need a life-saving kidney or liver transplant and those who want to give a transformative gift of life.

Illumination: FASD Awareness Day

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up red for FASD Awareness Day. First celebrated in 1999, FASD Day is devoted to raising awareness of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) to improve prevention of FASD and diagnosis and support for individuals with FASD. More awareness can lead to better understanding and support for individuals, families, and people who are pregnant and parenting.

Illumination: World Sepsis Day

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be illuminated pink for World Sepsis Day. Sepsis, declared a global healthcare priority by the World Health Organization, claims 1/5 of global deaths annually. Despite its prevalence, many Canadians remain unaware of its severity and how to identify it. In Canada alone, sepsis cases and fatalities continue to rise, impacting over 300,000 individuals annually, with a mortality rate of 20-30%. The aftermath of surviving sepsis can lead to long-term physical, cognitive, and psychological challenges, with up to 50% facing readmission within the following year.

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up blue for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.Why prostate cancer? It’s the most diagnosed cancer in men – not only in Canada, but in more than 110 countries worldwide. This translates into 1 in 8 Canadian men diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up blue and yellow for National Coaches Week. National Coaches Week celebrates the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities. Over the past three years the campaign has achieved over 61 million impressions utilizing the #ThanksCoach on social media and this year they are looking to continue to build further awareness and engagement with your support.

In-person engagement event: Ronald Lavallee Memorial Kiwanis Park Improvements

Open House: Proposal for Open Space Disposition to Support an Indoor Sportsplex

Join us for a drop-in Open House at the Kingston East Community Centre (779 Highway 15, Kingston, ON) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to learn more about the proposed disposition of open space in support of a private indoor sportsplex at 755 Innovation Drive. Feel free to drop by anytime during this period. We will provide light refreshments.

At this event, you can review the proposed development, ask questions, and share your feedback and comments on the project. City staff from various departments will be available to answer questions.

Flag Raising: Northeast Shrine Association Field Days

The Northeast Shrine Association Field Days is historically a much anticipated event which brings together the various Shrine Centers from across the Northeast region and thereby exemplifies both the fraternal & philanthropic (Shriners Hospitals for Children) nature of this unique organization. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of non-profit medical facilities across North America that treats children with orthopaedic & neuromuscular conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip & palate issues. Patients receive care in a family centered environment, regardless of the patient/family's ability to pay. Over the years numerous children from the Kingston area have been successfully treated at one or more or these facilities.
