City Hall will be illuminated red and white to represent the colours of the Canadian flag. Canada's national holiday celebrates the anniversary of July 1, 1867, the effective date of the British North America Act, 1867 (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which confederated Canada.

Illumination: IGNITE the Light

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up in red and purple for IGNITE the Light. IGNITE the Light is a fundraising initiative celebrating 50 days until the Canadian Paralympic Team participates in the Paralympic Games in Paris. This event is particularly meaningful as it highlights local Paralympian Abi Tripp, a celebrated Para swimmer from Kingston, whose achievements have brought pride and recognition to the community.

Flag Raising: Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre - Space Craft Parking Here

The Space Craft Parking Here sign will be flown in Confederation Park in conjunction with the exhibition Playful Encounters at Modern Fuel, which is on display from May 18 – July 20, 2024. The flag, Space Craft Parking Here, is humorous at first glance, but hopes to challenge us to consider our imagined futures for our planet Earth. Spacecraft Parking Passes are available through Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre along with active dates and corresponding coordinates for your parking needs. Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre is a non-profit organization facilitating the presentation, interpretation, and production of contemporary visual, time-based, and interdisciplinary arts.

Illumination: World Fragile X Awareness Day

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up teal and blue for World Fragile X Awareness Day. Fragile X syndrome is a genetic condition that causes a range of developmental problems including learning disabilities, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder. It is caused by a change in a single gene, which is vital for normal brain function. Fragile X syndrome is the most commonly known cause of inherited intellectual disability and the leading known single-gene cause of autism.

City Hall Illumination: The Kick & Push Festival

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up orange and blue for The Kick & Push Festival. The Kick & Push Festival is Kingston's largest and longest running theatre festival, celebrating innovative theatre and experiences for Kingstonians and tourists alike. This summer they are entering their tenth season, with a myriad of different offerings for audiences to attend, including: walking tours, the Cedar Island Indigenous Residency, interactive installations, and the TK Fringe.
