Illumination: Hidradenitis Suppurativa Awareness Week

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up purple for Hidradenitis Suppurative Awareness Week. Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, non-communicable, debilitating inflammatory skin disease, characterized by painful skin lesions, for which there is no known cure. As many as 4% of men, woman and children in Ontario and across Canada are living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) but may not have a diagnosis due to lack of both patient and physician awareness Hidradenitis & Me Support Group is a registered not-for-profit that facilitates monthly support group sessions physically and virtually with the mission to promote self-care and awareness. City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up orange for Crossing Guard Appreciation Week. Crossing Guard Appreciation Week runs from June 3-7, 2024 to shine a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who tirelessly ensure the safety of children as they journey to and from school.

Illumination: BGC Club Day

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up green and blue for BGC Club Day. On Friday, June 7, 2024 BGC Clubs across Canada supporters will come together in an annual celebration of the work and the impact BGC has on young people across the country. Last year, BGC served over 6,700 local children and youth in Kingston & Area, providing a safe place to learn healthy skills and be mentored by nurturing adults. They deliver programs across 10 locations, and have expanded programming to operate during evenings and weekends, critical hours to keep children and youth under positive supervision.

Sensity is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals who are deafblind. They are a non-profit organization drive by a passionate team of professionals, committed to supporting and empowering individuals living with deafblindness.

Illumination: Cavernous Malformation Awareness Month

City Hall and Springer Market Square will be lit up red and white for Cavernous Malformation Awareness Month. Cavernous Malformation is a rare disease, and in some cases is genetic. It is most commonly found in the brain, and there is no cure. Surgery is the only treatment and there are many areas in the brain where that is not an option.

Illumination: Kingston Pride

City Hall will be illuminated with the colours associated with the Pride flag. Each of the six colors has a meaning; red means life, orange means healing, yellow means sunlight, green means nature, blue means harmony and peace, and purple means spirit. More recent versions of the Pride flag now also include black and brown to show support for people of colour. June is widely recognized as Pride Month to commemorate the anniversary of Stonewall riots that began during the early hours of June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York an event that is now credited as giving rise to the modern LGBTQ movement.
